Briefing reporters Tuesday at the Pentagon, Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
said they had evidence that two Arab television news organizations, Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya, may have worked with Iraqi
insurgents to videotape some of the attacks. Rumsfeld said the effort fit a pattern of psychological
warfare used by remnants of the Baathist government, who want to create the impression that no amount of U.S. firepower can [legitimate the criminal assault on IRAQ]. . . Neither
Rumsfeld nor Myers would provide details, but when pressed for specifics, both indicated that the evidence collected by U.S.
forces was more than just circumstantial. Yes, Ive seen scraps of information over a sustained
period of time, Rumsfeld said. Im not in a position to make a final judgment on it, but it needs to be examined in an orderly
way, he said. © 2003 Associated Press.
